The Great American Job Giveaway

"The question is whether America can remain a great power or a dominant power if it becomes a primarily service economy. I doubt that. A country must have an industrial base to play a significant role in the world. I am concerned." - Henry Kissenger July-2003

"When my colleagues get a letter from a constituent who has been displaced by foreign workers, they should write back to them & say, 'It is the policy of this government to displace you, to move you into a lower economic income category, because we believe in cheap labor & we believe the politics of open borders helps our party." - Congressman Tom Tancredo

Spurned

You, the American taxpayer, built the business infrastructure and business environment that was essential to the success of great American companies. While still reaping the benefits of your tax dollars, your employer is now considering replacing you with a cheap foreign worker. And these great American companies are building barriers to small businesses to prevent you, and other Americans, from having the same opportunity they had to build your own small business.

Forsaken

17 million work visas have been issued since 1987 to replace American workers on our own soil with imported foreign guest workers who have little more rights than indentured servants of centuries past. More than 4 million guest worker visas have been issued since the recession began in 2000. The very right to stay in this country is in the hands of guest workers' employers - giving them the ultimate power to exploit cheap foreign labor right here in America.

Before the dust settled from the flight of America's once-powerful industrial base, America's technology base is taking the same path. America is being robbed of the technology developed from our educational institutions, technology, infrastructure, and tax base. America's corporations - even defense contractors - are offshoring research and development to developing countries and unfriendly countries where engineers, researchers, and designers work slave hours for less than the American minimum wage. Targeted.

America is not just importing low-skill and unskilled workers these days. More than half of work-related visas are issued to white-collar workers. Ninety-two white-collar professions are now government-approved for cheap foreign guest worker programs, including doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, scientists, computer programmers, architects, accountants, lawyers - even judges. School districts, short on cash, have begun a dangerous trend of laying off American teachers and replacing them with foreign guest workers in budget-cutting measures.

Violated.

When jobs go offshore, so does your confidential data. Your tax returns, medical records, credit cards, social security, mortgage, parking tickets, and even welfare benefits are being processed in third-world countries with high incidence of identity theft and little or no privacy laws. The employees handling your private data usually have an annual salary less than average limit of a single credit card.

Sold Out.

Politicians rob America's coffers for pet projects and special interests while cutting costs by replacing domestic government employees with offshored public service jobs - discarding more tax base from an already broken and deeply indebted system. State governments across America have already sent tens of thousands of jobs offshore, and the federal government has plans to outsource 850,000 jobs.

Cheated.

Foreign guest workers in our country often pay little or no income tax. L-1 visa holders are not required to pay federal income tax - no matter their income level. H-1B visa holders often cheat our tax system by negotiating a low "official" wage and receiving the bulk of their salary in the form of non-taxable "living expenses"; the official wage is generally in the lowest tax bracket so the employee gets a full refund at the end of the tax year.

Subverted.

Your economy and daily life is now dependent on America's technology, communications, and utilities infrastructure. This infrastructure is now largely in the hands of foreign nationals - right here on our own soil - with unfettered access, both domestically and from abroad, putting our nation's security and stability at risk.

Duped.

When manufacturing jobs moved offshore during the 70s and 80s, Americans followed the advice to retrain for the new economy - technology and services. Today we are exporting millions of technology and services jobs, including the computer, financial, healthcare, and administrative jobs that millions retrained for in the 70s and 80s. We have offshored our most promising research and development jobs. Today we ask, "Now retrain for what?"

Boondoggled.

Corporate talking heads parrot phrases about increased efficiency and increased productivity. Outsourcing entire divisions of companies, both small and large, has become the norm, - even outsouring the core competencies of thousands companies - and these increases in productivity and efficiency are directly attributed to outsourcing. Outsourced work is a "service", and work hours are not calculated, creating a false inflation of productivity and effiency rates that is, indeed, directed attributed to outsourcing.

Hoodwinked.

To put it simply, the unemployment rate calculated by the Department of Labor is inaccurate. New jobs created include offshore jobs. While reservists and guardsmen sent to active duty were never counted in the rolls before, now they are. These are just a few of the ploys used to falsely deflate the rate of unemployment before those figures are published.

Jackrolled.

They say investors will make higher profits offshore and return that money into the U.S. economy to increase hiring here. But increased profits offshore only have one result: increased investments offshore. After all, if an investor can make more money by investing offshore, why would s/he reinvest those profits in America?
