AGENDA

Born in 1928, I have lived throughout a continual stream of agendas. Extracting the nation from the great depression required the boldest of agendas. As circumstances required, potholes in the way of society’s progress were paved with good intentions. Not until the electronic age gained speed and dominance did the word “agenda” ... switch from “planning to plotting.”

My generation wasn’t titled “great depression babies” for nothing. It was a difficult time.

Agendas of hope, agendas depicting a truly improving future, honest agendas the population could believe in energized a nation. As a result our country worked together, succeeded, and prospered. Together we pulled through. Our country didn’t pull us to pieces.

What is an agenda? Who creates it? What purpose should it serve? If we are referring to an agenda coming from a perceived honest government, (asking for our participation and showing us a reason), we will assume it was created for our good. We expect it to improve our lives. At the very least, the facts presented to us should be unambiguous, so that we are honestly motivated.

Americans have displayed true-grit for centuries.  America moved forward as courageous pioneers, faced the unknown, and overcame seemingly unending hardships. From coast to coast ordinary people performed extraordinary feats to reach for their dreams. They had a plan, a goal ... “a believable agenda.”

Nothing was more demoralizing or appeared more insurmountable than the great depression ... yet it was overcome. Planning “included the well being of America’s workers.” It did not focus exclusively on corporate and the trickle down nonsense. It took leaders with vision, who were trusted, who were coherent, and most important, who really wanted to ease the pains of hurting Americans. If we weren’t included in the plan for the right reasons America would never have attained greatness so quickly. From that effort, the American dream emerged full strength. Today, “power players” dangle a self serving reconstructed dream before us and insist it’s the way to a better life. Had they not disrupted a way of life that had a recorded history of beneficial improvements ... we would not be involved in this rejuvenation dialogue.

To pinpoint the differences of our elected leaders today, with the statesmen of yesterday, one must grasp a fundamental distinction. Planning then (for the most part) included the improvement of peoples lives ... “tangible improvement.” Today, their planning has created confusion and separation of America’s people. They are clumsily attempting to avoid a major conflict with the masses. They do fence with a segment here and there as necessary.

Planning appears to be altered daily “to quell, not to improve.” Agendas of the past were generally considerate of society. Today’s agendas are tearing the fabric of society asunder.

Rather than instituting programs devised to improve the stability of our work force -- realistic rewarding programs with realistic rewarding goals, honestly presented, honestly founded, “downsizing and retraining” has become the order of the day. The result? Wall Street feasted as Main Street tightened its belt. Our pathway to the future is being determined by brute power imposing an agenda that will never focus on us. Though we are told to believe their plans for us will be the elixir of life, “in reality it’s pure snake oil.” More likely it could kill us.

The energy of American workers combined with a well intentioned agenda, were the reasons we came out of a devastating depression as uncontested world leaders. We were the success story of the world proudly displaying how a free society (a productive one), created a mecca.

Innovative improvements were added to an agenda already proven to be flourishing. The alterations were to make sure everyone had a shot at securing the American dream and pass it on to the next generation. When an agenda earnestly embodies the wellness of a population living now and continuity for the children to come, what could instill vitality better than that. Our present state of affairs, is a testament to a total lack of our leaders agendas. Politics, not peoples welfare rule our times. Those responsible will surely come to rue their actions.

As vitality wanes, belief dwindles, virtue becomes torment, power and their technological supported agenda races ahead. To find clarity in any program now foisted on us, is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Statesmen like leadership has been replaced with vendors of illusion. Truthful information concerning our future has become a carefully guarded secret. Gamesmanship or statesmanship?

A revolution stemming from overwhelming mistrust, is in process, and power is aware of it. Americans are letting it be known, this new technique of abduction that power is employing has become an open book.

Our present uproar is gaining intensity. They, replying with tenacious adherence to their none responsive dialect, they try to sidestep the issues. Government has become so distant from the people, it is obvious, they no longer feel it necessary to correct problems they created for us. As the days go by, and one scandal after another blights their house, they move further beyond our reach. To use a much bandied quote “they have wrapped themselves in Teflon.”

Contemplate some agendas from the past.

Agendas that instilled pride and chauvinism ........................................ are gone.
Agendas providing many levels of opportunity...................................... are gone.
Agendas expanding our manufacturing base ....................................... are gone.
Agendas perpetuating infrastructure needs .......................................... are gone.
Agendas to protect and preserve family ................................................ are gone.
Agendas connected to We The People ................................................. are gone.
Agendas with a consensus of believers ................................................. are gone.

The list of trashed agendas goes on and the level of anxiety and hostility increases. What could possibly be the result? Think about it.

A lot of agendas have come and gone since 1928 -- some good, some bad, some worked, some failed. Despite motives always pursued by special interests, there were enough strong and determined advocates for the people. They pledged themselves to protect the “original American goals” ... goals that paved the peoples way to greatness.

Business profited, families profited -- what could be better ... the agenda was working.

P.T. Barnum must have reached across the void into the ears of power. They listened and agreed, “a sucker is born every minute.” With that protocol in hand power went hog wild to prove it. Growing in strength, embracing that credo, power exploited that concept to the fullest degree.

As their discouraging plans began to emerge, portraying a bleak future, we woke up to the fact that we were under attack. Americans never did have to fill their days with undue political savvy. America was never supposed to be a country where citizens had to be constantly on guard and in fear of a crowned potentate. We were totally unprepared for the shrouded obstacles placed on the road to our dream.

We were lulled by music written and conducted by power, music that might be labeled “Fantasia.” It has (without our consent) transported us to a dream world from which we are struggling to awake. As we rub the illusion from our eyes, the awareness of what’s facing the workers of America today “is impacting us to the core.”

Like the proverbial straw that broke the camels back, the insolent verbiage of power is about to break ours. The agenda of power, supported by power’s obedient captives, shows no signs of being diverted by commoners such as we. No sooner do we conceive a plan that might gain us even a feeble inroad to the power tower they are ready with counter measures. New agendas, all smelling of hidden intentions, emerge quicker than we can analyze and reject
them. Though they are a “chip enabled army,” we should always bear in mind, “so are we.”

Agendas of misdirection abound. Here are a few.

Better schools and education for all ........................................ we had that once.
Better job training and apprenticeship .................................... we had that once.
Better jobs for better financial reward ..................................... we had that once.
Better family values ................................................................. we had that once.
Better future expectations .........................................................we had that once.
Better love of country ................................................................we had that once.

Promising “rewards?” continue to cascade from power’s Mount Olympus. They are dredging up what we once had for real, presenting it to us as their planning for our future, as though we never experienced it for real ... just yesterday. When will they understand the people who made America great should not be underrated. We may appear innocent of what is going on, but that doesn’t equate to stupid.

Laws exist and, if correctly applied, could halt this rampage of power. Though power has had help in bending or burying original law ... such corruption should not be considered irreversible.

Original law dealing with monopolistic practices was twisted out of shape by “power’s connections.” Money, certainly an abundance of it, can corrupt enough to make seemingly incorruptible obstacles easygoing to steer around.

As we bemoan our future and fumble for the brakes to bring our downhill slide to a halt, power is still moving ahead. Make no mistake about that. As the economic fortunes of American workers dwindles, Wall Street bolsters the claim our economy is strong. As government keeps on showing us figures enforcing their picture of our robust economy, others are saying the figures are cooked. As this battle of the numbers goes nowhere, power is in its glory, the people are in their place. More Americans are hitting bottom than ever. We now have a name for them ... “the working poor.”

Be it the “Chip,” our captured government, or our vital manufacturing base disappearing ... one or all has agitated the country and opened the peoples eyes. What I have dubbed as the “Push Hamburger Agenda” is under way and in one way or another resentment to it is pouring forth.

IS THIS TO BE OUR FUTURE?

NOT IF AN AFFLICTED AMERICAN
SOCIETY GETS TOGETHER TO STOP IT.

THERE’S A LIMIT

TO HOW HIGH WE CAN BE STACKED
